Roller chain 12A-1 in a 4 m length is the choice for drives with larger shaft centre distances - belt conveyors, main drives of potato harvesters, fruit and vegetable sorting lines, silage presses and process lines in poultry slaughterhouses. Four metres without any intermediate joint is also a service argument - one length instead of two joined together means fewer risk points.

How do you correctly fit and tension the 12A chain?

Before fitting a new chain, clean the sprockets of old grease residue and metal swarf - especially if there was previously cement or welding dust in the workshop. Check that the shafts are parallel (tolerance ±1 mm) and that the sprockets are aligned (lateral deviation up to 1 mm per metre of centre distance). A chain that is too slack whips and damages the sprockets; one that is too tight loads the bearings and accelerates pin wear. Correct slack: with the upper run tensioned, the lower run should deflect a few millimetres when pressed by hand. Make the first tension adjustment after 50 operating hours - the chain "beds in" on the sprockets during running-in.
