The chain starts to "run unevenly", it skips on the drive sprocket, the drive knocks - this is not a random failure, it is the effect of an elongated chain that has been running too long. The 12A-1 roller chain from Ozdowski in a 2 m section allows quick replacement in the drives of combine harvesters, balers, threshers, grain feeders and industrial belt conveyors - without shortening and without joining shorter pieces.

Why does a roller chain elongate and when should it be replaced?

A chain does not stretch like rubber - elongation is the formation of play due to the gradual wear of pins and bushes in every joint. The more link pairs, the more the effect accumulates. Replace the chain when its length over 10 links exceeds the nominal value by 2% (for high-speed drives already at 1%). With a pitch of 19.05 mm this means that 10 links should measure 190.5 mm - if the caliper shows 194.5 mm or more, the chain must be replaced. That's all the maths - the rest is regular lubrication and tension checks.
