The 12A-1 (60-1) roller chain in a 1 m section is a drive component used in combine harvesters, round balers, seed drills, manure spreaders, screw conveyors and woodworking machines. How do you choose the 12A chain for your machine?
The key dimension is the pitch - the distance between the centres of adjacent pins. For the 12A chain it is 19.05 mm. Measure the distance over 10 links with a caliper and divide by 10 - this will give you an accurate result even on a worn chain. If the result approaches 19.4 mm or more, the chain is elongated and needs replacing. The 12A chain (American designation: 60-1) fits all sprockets with a pitch of 19.05 mm made to DIN/ISO 606.
