Product Description

Roller chain 28A-2 (140-2)

This duplex roller chain bears the designation 28A-2 (ANSI 140) and operates at a pitch of 44.45 mm, typical of the drives of machines imported from the USA. The pin, roller and plate are hardened separately before the link is assembled - the approach on which we, as a European manufacturer, build the durability of the entire American series. Ozdowski chains withstand loads approx. 20% higher than the standard minimum - this is the result of individual hardening of each component (pin, roller, plate) before the chain is assembled.

Frequently asked questions

How do you choose the correct ANSI roller chain pitch for a drive?

Three parameters determine the correct selection: pitch, inner width and roller diameter - for 28A (ANSI 140) they are 44.45 mm, 25.22 mm and 25.4 mm respectively. It is also worth considering the load, rotational speed and operating environment (dust, moisture) in order to choose the right version.

What is the purpose of the duplex design in a roller chain?

A duplex chain consists of two parallel rows of links mounted on common pins. This design is chosen when the installation space does not allow a sprocket with a larger pitch and the drive has to transmit a higher torque than the simplex version.

Does running a chain "dry", without lubrication, really harm the drive?

Yes - lubricant limits metal-to-metal friction in the joints and dissipates heat from the pin contact areas. Without lubricant, micro-seizure, faster heating and accelerated wear of components occur.

Can an ANSI chain be ordered in a non-standard length?

Yes - with an odd number of links a half link is used, although fitting it slightly weakens the chain. Where possible, it is better to choose a length that gives an even number of links and to close the chain with a full connecting link.

Where is this product used?

It is used in high-capacity grain elevators and industrial conveyors, as well as in construction machinery.
