Product Description
Roller chain 16B-2 stainless
Stainless chain 16B-2 is a duplex chain with a pitch of 25.4 mm, used where standard carbon steel would corrode. Manufactured in accordance with the standard DIN 8187 / ISO 606; as a European manufacturer, we guarantee dimensional compatibility with sprockets of the same standard, regardless of the material. In Ozdowski chains, each component is hardened separately before being assembled into a finished link - which is why their actual strength exceeds the requirements of the standard by about 20%, meaning greater durability and resistance to breaking.

Frequently asked questions
How do I select a stainless 16B chain for a drive or conveyor?
Three parameters are key: pitch, inner width and roller diameter - for 16B they are 25.4 mm, 17.02 mm and 15.88 mm respectively. In addition, in a corrosive environment it is worth assessing whether standard stainless steel is sufficient or whether the acid-resistant 316L version is needed.
What grade of steel is the stainless chain in this version made of?
The standard stainless version is made of chromium-nickel steel (type 304) containing approx. 18% chromium and 8-10% nickel. It performs well in humid conditions and in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where carbon steel would corrode.
What is the purpose of the duplex design in a roller chain?
A duplex chain consists of two parallel rows of links mounted on common pins. It is chosen when the installation space does not allow a sprocket with a larger pitch and the drive must transmit a higher torque than with the simplex version.
Why does a stainless chain not rust the way a carbon steel chain does?
Stainless steel contains at least 18% chromium, which forms an invisible, self-renewing passive layer of chromium oxide on the surface. It is this layer, not the steel itself, that protects the chain against oxidation - if it is mechanically damaged (e.g. by a deep scratch), it rebuilds itself in the presence of air.
Where is this product used?
Used on conveyors and in packaging machines in food and pharmaceutical plants, as well as in rooms with high humidity where ease of cleaning is required.
