Product Description
Roller chain 08B-1 stainless
The stainless version of 08B-1 is a simplex roller chain with a pitch of 12.7 mm, designed for operation in humid or corrosive environments. The pin, roller and plate are hardened separately before the link is assembled - as a European manufacturer, we apply the same principle to the stainless version too, for uniform hardness of the components. The Ozdowski brand hardens pins, rollers and plates individually, before the links are assembled into a complete chain - as a result, our chains are approx. 20% stronger than the standard requires and therefore more durable and robust when working under load.

Frequently asked questions
How do I select a stainless 08B chain for a drive or conveyor?
Three parameters are key: pitch, inner width and roller diameter - for 08B they are 12.7 mm, 7.75 mm and 8.51 mm respectively. In addition, in a corrosive environment it is worth assessing whether standard stainless steel is sufficient or whether the acid-resistant 316L version is needed.
What grade of steel is the stainless chain in this version made of?
The standard stainless version is made of chromium-nickel steel (type 304) containing approx. 18% chromium and 8-10% nickel. It performs well in humid conditions and in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where carbon steel would corrode.
Does stainless steel have lower strength than carbon steel of the same pitch?
Yes, usually a somewhat lower tensile strength than hardened carbon steel of the same dimensions - this is the price of achieving corrosion resistance. This should be taken into account when selecting a chain for a heavily loaded drive.
How many links should the ordered chain have?
It is best to order a chain with an even number of links - this allows it to be closed with a full connecting link. With an odd number of links, an offset link (half link) is needed, which has approx. 20-30% lower fatigue strength than a connecting link, due to the plate geometry being prone to bending.
Where is this product used?
Used on conveyors and in packaging machines in food and pharmaceutical plants, as well as in rooms with high humidity where ease of cleaning is required.
