Product Description
Sprocket 28B-3 z=40, with hub
The sprocket 28B-3 shown is a triplex (three-strand) sprocket with 40 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 1 3/4" / 44.45 mm. As a European manufacturer, Ozdowski supplies the sprocket in C45E steel (EN 10083-1), in accordance with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 - a version without tooth hardening, cheaper than the hardened variant and sufficient for many typical industrial applications.

Frequently asked questions
How can you recognise a sprocket not made in accordance with the DIN 8187 profile?
Most often it is visible from the incorrect seating of the chain on the teeth - the chain "sits" on the tooth tips or too deep in the tooth roots, despite the correct pitch. In that case, it is worth placing a section of a known reference chain of this pitch on the sprocket and checking whether it engages each tooth evenly and smoothly.
How can a sprocket and chain be protected against corrosion during storage?
After cleaning off any dirt, it is advisable to apply a layer of preservative grease or anti-corrosion oil and store the sprocket in a dry place not exposed to condensation. In the steel version (without coating), even a short damp break in the workshop can cause a rusty film on the tooth surfaces.
When should I choose a sprocket with hub and when a flat one (plate wheel)?
Flat sprockets (plate wheels) are most often used where they are mounted onto an existing flange or drum, or when there is extremely little space on the shaft. We choose a sprocket with hub when it must reliably transmit high torque directly from the shaft via a key - the hub provides a longer contact surface.
Does a sprocket with hub have a fixed mounting side, or can it be reversed?
The sprocket is usually symmetrical with respect to the plane of the rim, so the rim itself cannot be "reversed incorrectly" - but the hub is usually on only one side of the sprocket, which determines which way the sprocket must be mounted relative to other components on the shaft (e.g. bearings, other sprockets).
Where is this product used?
Typical applications of the 28B-3 sprocket: drives for pumps, mixers and industrial fans, as well as control systems for industrial gates and roller shutters, where resistance to continuous operation is required.
