Product Description
Sprocket 24B-3 z=76, with cast iron hub
Sprocket 24B-3, triplex (three-strand), with 76 teeth and a hub - pitch 1 1/2" (38.1 mm). The material is grey cast iron - an economical solution with good vibration damping that proves itself in drives running at constant speed; the hub has a pilot bore that must be bored out individually to suit the shaft.

Frequently asked questions
How can you recognise a sprocket not made in accordance with the DIN 8187 profile?
Most often it is visible from the incorrect seating of the chain on the teeth - the chain "sits" on the tooth tips or too deep in the tooth roots, despite the correct pitch. In that case, it is worth placing a section of a known reference chain of this pitch on the sprocket and checking whether it engages each tooth evenly and smoothly.
Can a sprocket with a technological bore be installed without additional machining?
No - the technological bore is deliberately too small to fit a typical shaft. It must be bored on a lathe to the required diameter and, if necessary, a keyway cut according to the requirements of the specific machine.
How do I select a sprocket for a roller chain?
The selected sprocket must match the chain parameters exactly. Pay attention to three things: the standard (European B series), the pitch and the number of strands. The sprocket must have a tooth profile compliant with DIN 8187 so that the chain enters the tooth root smoothly without jamming.
How do I determine the centre distance between the driving and driven sprockets?
The centre distance should provide an adequate chain wrap angle on the smaller sprocket (usually a minimum of about 120°) and sufficient chain length so that the number of links is a whole number, preferably even. Too small a centre distance increases the meshing frequency and accelerates wear, while too large a one leads to excessive chain sag.
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
Typical applications of the 24B-3 sprocket: drives for pumps, mixers and industrial fans, as well as control systems for industrial gates and roller shutters, where resistance to continuous operation is required.
