Product Description
Sprocket 24B-3 z=45, with cast iron hub
Triplex (three-strand) sprocket 24B-3 with hub, 45 teeth - designed for chain with a pitch of 1 1/2" (38.1 mm). Cast iron version of the sprocket - the tooth geometry is identical to the steel version with the same pitch and number of teeth; the bore in the hub is a pilot (preliminary) bore, and the exact size is achieved by turning.

Frequently asked questions
How should large-diameter sprockets be transported and stored to prevent deformation?
Large sprockets are best stored and transported lying flat on a level, stable surface, rather than resting on the toothed rim alone, which is more susceptible to local deformation. When lifting, it is advisable to use slings passed through the hub bore rather than hooking them onto individual teeth.
Can the hub of a sprocket have a different hardness from the toothed rim?
Yes, and in practice this is usually the case - in the version with induction-hardened teeth, only the toothed rim is hardened, while the hub remains soft so that it can be freely turned and a keyway can be cut in it. This solution combines tooth wear resistance with ease of machining the hub.
What should be used to preserve sprockets before a longer break in operation?
After cleaning with a brush and a technical cleaner, apply preservative grease or a thick, moisture-displacing spray oil to the entire surface of the sprocket. This will protect the metal against rust deposits during the break while it is stored in the hall.
How does the choice of the number of teeth affect vibration levels and drive operation?
A smaller number of teeth means fewer meshing points per revolution and larger fluctuations in the instantaneous chain speed (the so-called polygon effect), which results in higher vibration levels. Increasing the number of teeth of the sprocket (at the same pitch) smooths the operation of the drive, although it increases its overall dimensions.
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
This type of sprocket is used in drives of agricultural and industrial machinery, including screw and bucket conveyors, feed conveyors, packaging machines and internal transport systems.
