Product Description
Sprocket 20B-1 z=15, with hub
The sprocket 20B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 15 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 1 1/4" / 31.75 mm. As a European manufacturer, Ozdowski supplies the sprocket in C45E steel (EN 10083-1), in accordance with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 - a version without tooth hardening, cheaper than the hardened variant and sufficient for many typical industrial applications.

Frequently asked questions
In what cases are multi-strand sprockets used?
They are used to drive multi-strand chains in heavily loaded machines where there is no room for a wider sprocket with a larger pitch. Several strands distribute the load evenly, preventing premature chain breakage.
How can you recognise a sprocket not made in accordance with the DIN 8187 profile?
Most often it is visible from the incorrect seating of the chain on the teeth - the chain "sits" on the tooth tips or too deep in the tooth roots, despite the correct pitch. In that case, it is worth placing a section of a known reference chain of this pitch on the sprocket and checking whether it engages each tooth evenly and smoothly.
Can the hub of a sprocket have a different hardness from the toothed rim?
Yes, and in practice this is usually the case - in the version with induction-hardened teeth, only the toothed rim is hardened, while the hub remains soft so that it can be freely turned and a keyway can be cut in it. This solution combines tooth wear resistance with ease of machining the hub.
How important is the concentricity of the hub bore relative to the toothed rim?
If the hub bore is not machined concentrically with the toothed rim, the sprocket will "run out" during operation - the teeth will engage the chain at a varying angle, which accelerates their wear and generates additional vibration. That is why boring out the pilot bore must be done on a lathe, clamping the sprocket by the hub or rim, and not "by eye".
Where is this product used?
20B-1 sprockets are used in industrial drive transmissions: conveyors, feeders, packaging machines and production lines where precise, repeatable torque transmission matters.
