Product Description

Tandem sprocket 16B z=18 for two simplex chains, width 68 mm, C45 steel works with two simplex roller chains 16B-1 (European standard DIN 8187 / ISO 606) with a pitch of 25.4 mm (1"). It has two rims with 18 teeth each on a common body, made of C45 steel.

The rims are spaced 51.8 mm apart, so each chain runs on its own rim, independently of the other. The sprocket has no hub - the 25 mm pilot bore is reamed to the shaft size and completed with a keyway or a set screw hole.

Applications

It is used on intermediate shafts that receive the drive via one chain and pass it on via the other, as well as in drives that split the torque between two independent consumers.

Frequently asked questions

Which chain does this sprocket fit?

With two simplex roller chains 16B-1 to European standard DIN 8187 / ISO 606, with a pitch of 25.4 mm. Each chain runs on its own toothed rim.

What is the difference between a tandem sprocket and a duplex sprocket?

A tandem sprocket has two rims for two separate simplex chains 16B-1 - each chain runs on its own rim and can drive a different consumer. A duplex sprocket is designed for one duplex chain 16B-2, whose two rows of rollers are connected by common pins. That is why a duplex chain is not fitted on a tandem sprocket - the rims of this sprocket are spaced 51.8 mm apart, while the roller rows of the 16B-2 chain are 31.88 mm apart.

Does it fit ASA 80 chain?

No. ASA 80 chain (American standard) has the same pitch and roller diameter, but a different inner width (15.88 mm instead of 17.02 mm). The 16B sprocket is designed for European-standard chain, so the two systems should not be mixed.

How do I prepare the bore for mounting on the shaft?

The sprocket has a 25 mm pilot bore. It is reamed to the shaft diameter, and then a keyway or a set screw hole is made. During machining, keep the bore concentric with the rims so that both chains run without runout.

How should the sprockets be aligned during installation?

Each of the two chains must run in one plane with its mating sprocket. For alignment, you can use a long steel straightedge placed against the sides of the sprockets or a laser alignment tool. Even a slight deviation causes wear on the tooth flanks and accelerates chain wear.

What does the lead time depend on?

When ordering, please check the current stock level of this sprocket - the lead time depends on it and is clearly stated according to the quantity available in each warehouse. The stock level is shown above the product price and may vary depending on the warehouse.
