Product Description
Sprocket 16B-3 z=12, with hub
The sprocket 16B-3 shown is a triplex (three-strand) sprocket with 12 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 1" / 25.4 mm. The sprocket complies with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 and is made of C45E steel (EN 10083-1); the teeth are not hardened, which lowers the cost of the sprocket and makes it easier to machine (e.g. deep boring of the hub) throughout the entire volume of the material.

Frequently asked questions
How do you correctly align sprockets during installation?
The driving and driven sprockets must be in one perfect line. You can use a long steel straightedge placed against the faces of both sprockets or a professional laser alignment tool. Even a slight angular deviation will quickly destroy the chain.
How does a sprocket with hardened teeth differ from the standard version (non-hardened)?
The hardened version has teeth induction-hardened to 45-55 HRC, which extends service life in drives operating continuously and under heavy load. The standard version (non-hardened) is cheaper and fully adequate for applications with moderate load or intermittent operation - our catalogue offers both variants for most pitches and numbers of teeth.
In what cases are multi-strand sprockets used?
They are used to drive multi-strand chains in heavily loaded machines where there is no room for a wider sprocket with a larger pitch. Several strands distribute the load evenly, preventing premature chain breakage.
What causes premature wear of the side faces of the teeth?
This is most often the result of misalignment of the sprockets on the shafts (so-called lateral runout of the drive). The chain does not run straight, and its inner plates catch on the sides of the teeth, wearing them down to bare metal. The system must be realigned immediately.
Where is this product used?
Typical applications of the 16B-3 sprocket: drives for pumps, mixers and industrial fans, as well as control systems for industrial gates and roller shutters, where resistance to continuous operation is required.
