Product Description

Sprocket 16B-1 z=76, with cast iron hub

Sprocket 16B-1 (pitch 1" - 25.4 mm), simplex, 76 teeth, with hub. Cast iron version of the sprocket - the tooth geometry is identical to the steel version with the same pitch and number of teeth; the bore in the hub is a pilot (preliminary) bore, and the exact size is achieved by turning.

Frequently asked questions

How does rotational speed affect the selection of the minimum number of teeth of a sprocket in the system?

At higher rotational speeds, a larger minimum number of teeth on the smallest sprocket in the system is recommended to reduce chain vibration and impacts resulting from the so-called polygon effect. With very small sprockets (e.g. 9-11 teeth) and high speeds, wear and vibration levels increase significantly faster than with larger sprockets.

How do you select the number of teeth on the driving and driven sprockets to obtain the required ratio?

The ratio is calculated as the quotient of the number of teeth on the driven sprocket and the number of teeth on the driving sprocket. For example, to halve the rotational speed, the driven sprocket should have twice as many teeth as the driving sprocket - both sprockets must have the same pitch and number of strands.

Does the difference in hardness between sprocket and chain affect their rate of wear?

Yes - chain and sprocket manufacturers select hardness so that they wear as evenly as possible, rather than one element "cutting down" the other. An excessively hard sprocket working with a soft, non-certified chain (or vice versa) leads to faster wear of the weaker element.

Does a larger number of teeth always mean a longer service life for the sprocket?

Largely yes - the more teeth are engaged, the lower the load on each individual tooth, and the chain runs over a larger wrap angle, which reduces dynamic impacts. Very small sprockets (with fewer than fifteen or so teeth) wear the fastest and are best avoided if the drive design allows.

Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?

No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.

Where is this product used?

This type of sprocket is used in drives of agricultural and industrial machinery, including screw and bucket conveyors, feed conveyors, packaging machines and internal transport systems.

When placing your order, please check the current stock level of this gear - the lead time depends on it and is clearly stated according to the quantity available in the given warehouse.
