Product Description
Sprocket 12B-2 z=17, hardened hub
The sprocket 12B-2 presented here is a duplex sprocket with 17 teeth, made with a hardened hub, for a chain with a pitch of 3/4" / 19.05 mm. Compliance with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 guarantees full interchangeability with chain of the same pitch; C45E steel (EN 10083-1) and induction hardening of the teeth (45-55 HRC) provide high wear resistance while keeping the hub machinable.

Frequently asked questions
What causes premature wear of the side faces of the teeth?
This is most often the result of misalignment of the sprockets on the shafts (so-called lateral runout of the drive). The chain does not run straight, and its inner plates catch on the sides of the teeth, wearing them down to bare metal. The system must be realigned immediately.
How do you calculate the pitch circle diameter of a sprocket?
The pitch circle diameter (Dp) is, in simplified terms, the line along which the chain rollers roll. It is calculated using the formula: pitch divided by sine (180° / number of teeth).
When is it worth considering a sprocket made of reinforced steel for heavy-duty operating conditions?
In heavy dust, with powerful jolts (e.g. in presses) and where a breakdown in the middle of the season cannot be afforded, sprockets made of higher-strength quenched and tempered steel are often a good solution - it is worth consulting the supplier about unusual operating conditions.
Is a duplex sprocket the same as a tandem sprocket (for two single chains)?
No, even though they look very similar. A tandem sprocket is also a single, monolithic sprocket, but with a different (wider) spacing of the toothed rims - designed specifically for two independent simplex chains running in parallel. This duplex sprocket has a rim spacing matched to a single duplex chain, in which both strands are integrated with each other. Using a duplex sprocket for two single chains is a mistake - the spacing is too narrow and the chains will rub against each other, which leads to accelerated wear and, in extreme cases, to serious drive failure.
Where is this product used?
12B-2 sprockets operate in the drives of construction machinery, goods lifts, aggregate conveyors and woodworking machines - wherever tooth durability under heavy load matters.
