Product Description

Sprocket 12B-1 z=56, with hub

The sprocket 12B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 56 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 3/4" / 19.05 mm. The sprocket complies with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 and is made of C45E steel (EN 10083-1); the teeth are not hardened, which lowers the cost of the sprocket and makes it easier to machine (e.g. deep boring of the hub) throughout the entire volume of the material.

Frequently asked questions

Why are cast sprockets less precise than turned and milled ones?

Cheap castings have a rough tooth surface, hidden air bubbles and slight deformations. CNC-turned and milled sprockets mean a smooth working surface, perfect alignment and safety for the most expensive machines.

What is the set screw hole in the hub for?

The threaded hole in the hub is used to screw in a headless screw (a so-called grub screw). It secures the sprocket against axial displacement along the shaft during machine vibration.

How important is the concentricity of the hub bore relative to the toothed rim?

If the hub bore is not machined concentrically with the toothed rim, the sprocket will "run out" during operation - the teeth will engage the chain at a varying angle, which accelerates their wear and generates additional vibration. That is why boring out the pilot bore must be done on a lathe, clamping the sprocket by the hub or rim, and not "by eye".

How can you check that the sprocket meshes correctly with the chain when the machine is started for the first time?

At low speed (e.g. turning the shaft by hand), it is worth observing whether the chain enters and leaves the teeth smoothly around the entire circumference of the sprocket, without catching or jumping. Any irregularities in operation at this stage usually indicate an alignment error rather than a defect in the sprocket itself.

Where is this product used?

Applications include drives in the food industry, packaging machines, sorting lines and agricultural harvesting machines, where the sprocket operates seasonally but under full load.

When placing your order, please check the current stock level of this gear - the lead time depends on it and is clearly stated according to the quantity available in the given warehouse.
