Product Description
Sprocket 10B-3 z=76, with cast iron hub
Triplex (three-strand) sprocket 10B-3 with hub, 76 teeth - designed for chain with a pitch of 5/8" (15.88 mm). The sprocket is made of grey cast iron - a traditional material for sprockets in applications with moderate loads and lower rotational speeds; the bore in the hub is a pilot bore intended to be machined to the shaft size.

Frequently asked questions
What forces act on the key in a sprocket and how can it be prevented from shearing?
The key transmits the entire shearing torque between the shaft and the sprocket. Make sure it is made of suitable quenched and tempered steel, has an accurate fit in the keyway and that the machine is not subjected to extreme jerks without an overload clutch.
In what cases are multi-strand sprockets used?
They are used to drive multi-strand chains in heavily loaded machines where there is no room for a wider sprocket with a larger pitch. Several strands distribute the load evenly, preventing premature chain breakage.
How should a chain drive be lubricated to extend its service life?
The lubricant should get between the rollers and plates of the chain, not just onto its outer surface - it is best applied to the lower (slack) part of the chain, just before it runs onto the sprocket. In a dusty environment, a thick grease works better, while at high speeds a lower-viscosity oil that penetrates the joints more easily is preferable.
Can a new chain be fitted on an old, worn sprocket?
Never do this. An old, deformed sprocket has altered tooth geometry and will force drastic mechanical stretching on the new chain. The rule is "new chain - new sprocket" - only then will the drive achieve maximum service life.
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
Applications include drives in the food industry, packaging machines, sorting lines and agricultural harvesting machines, where the sprocket operates seasonally but under full load.
