Product Description
Sprocket 10B-1 z=57, with cast iron hub
The sprocket 10B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 57 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 5/8" / 15.88 mm. The material is grey cast iron - an economical solution with good vibration damping that proves itself in drives running at constant speed; the hub has a pilot bore that must be bored out individually to suit the shaft.

Frequently asked questions
Can a sprocket be welded directly to the drive shaft?
Technically this is possible, but we strongly advise against such a solution. Welding overheats the material, damages nearby bearings, bends the shaft and prevents the worn sprocket from being easily replaced later. Always use mounting with a key or a clamping bush.
Does a sprocket with hub have a fixed mounting side, or can it be reversed?
The sprocket is usually symmetrical with respect to the plane of the rim, so the rim itself cannot be "reversed incorrectly" - but the hub is usually on only one side of the sprocket, which determines which way the sprocket must be mounted relative to other components on the shaft (e.g. bearings, other sprockets).
What causes premature wear of the side faces of the teeth?
This is most often the result of misalignment of the sprockets on the shafts (so-called lateral runout of the drive). The chain does not run straight, and its inner plates catch on the sides of the teeth, wearing them down to bare metal. The system must be realigned immediately.
How does material quality prevent the teeth from "shearing" during sudden machine jerks?
Soft, uncertified sheet metal deforms under a sudden jerk - the teeth bend over. Steel from a certified melt, correctly heat-treated, has a high yield strength and withstands a torque surge without permanent deformation.
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
10B-1 sprockets operate in drives of construction machinery, goods lifts, aggregate conveyors and woodworking machines - wherever tooth durability under load matters.
