Sprocket 08B-1 z=18, hardened hub

Sprocket 08B-1, simplex, with 18 teeth and a hardened hub - pitch 1/2" (12.7 mm). Sprocket compliant with DIN 8187 / ISO 606, milled from C45E steel (EN 10083-1); the teeth are induction hardened (45-55 HRC), while the core and hub remain soft, allowing the bore to be safely machined to the shaft size.

How do you cut a keyway in the hub of a sprocket?

We cut keyways precisely on slotting machines according to DIN 6885. If you do it yourself, maintain axial alignment and the correct width and depth of the keyway so that the key sits securely and is not sheared off.

What should be used to preserve sprockets before a longer break in operation?

After cleaning with a brush and a technical cleaner, apply preservative grease or a thick, moisture-displacing spray oil to the entire surface of the sprocket. This will protect the carbon steel against a rusty film during a break in the workshop.

What is the relationship between the number of teeth of a sprocket and the rotational speed of the drive?

This is the basic principle of the transmission ratio. If there is a small sprocket on the motor (drive) and a large one on the machine, the machine will turn more slowly but gain proportionally greater torque (force).

Can a new chain be fitted on an old, worn sprocket?

Never do this. An old, deformed sprocket has altered tooth geometry and will force drastic mechanical stretching on the new chain. The rule is "new chain - new sprocket" - only then will the drive achieve maximum service life.
