Product Description
Sprocket 08B-1 z=114, with cast iron hub
The sprocket 08B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 114 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 1/2" / 12.7 mm. Cast iron version of the sprocket - the tooth geometry is identical to the steel version with the same pitch and number of teeth; the bore in the hub is a pilot (preliminary) bore, and the exact size is achieved by turning.

Frequently asked questions
What causes premature wear of the side faces of the teeth?
This is most often the result of misalignment of the sprockets on the shafts (so-called lateral runout of the drive). The chain does not run straight, and its inner plates catch on the sides of the teeth, wearing them down to bare metal. The system must be realigned immediately.
What happens when a sprocket operates under a greater load than intended?
Overloading first accelerates normal tooth wear, and with sudden overloads (e.g. machine blockage) the teeth may become permanently bent or sheared. In such cases, using an overload clutch in the system is often a better solution than choosing an oversized sprocket "just in case".
When is it worth considering a sprocket made of reinforced steel for heavy-duty operating conditions?
In heavy dust, with powerful jerks (e.g. in presses) and wherever a breakdown in the middle of the season is not an option, sprockets made of higher-strength quenching and tempering steel or a variant with hardened teeth are often a good solution - it is worth consulting the supplier in the case of unusual operating conditions.
How important is the concentricity of the hub bore relative to the toothed rim?
If the hub bore is not machined concentrically with the toothed rim, the sprocket will "run out" during operation - the teeth will engage the chain at a varying angle, which accelerates their wear and generates additional vibration. That is why boring out the pilot bore must be done on a lathe, clamping the sprocket by the hub or rim, and not "by eye".
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
08B-1 sprockets are used in industrial drive transmissions: conveyors, feeders, packaging machines and production lines where precise, repeatable torque transmission matters.
