Product Description

Sprocket 06B-1 z=57, with cast iron hub

The sprocket 06B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 57 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 3/8" / 9.53 mm. The material is grey cast iron - an economical solution with good vibration damping that proves itself in drives running at constant speed; the hub has a pilot bore that must be bored out individually to suit the shaft.

Frequently asked questions

How do I bore the hole in a sprocket to fit a motor shaft?

A sprocket with a pilot bore should be clamped in a lathe (gripping the hub to avoid runout) and bored to the required diameter with an H7 tolerance. The hub is usually soft and easy to machine, even in the version with hardened teeth.

When should I choose a sprocket with hub and when a flat one (plate wheel)?

Flat sprockets (plate wheels) are most often used where they are mounted onto an existing flange or drum, or when there is extremely little space on the shaft. We choose a sprocket with hub when it must reliably transmit high torque directly from the shaft via a key - the hub provides a longer contact surface.

When does tooth wear (the "shark fin" profile) mean the sprocket must be replaced?

If the teeth resemble pointed, tilted shark fins, the sprocket must be replaced immediately. Operating on such a profile can damage even a brand-new chain within a dozen or so days.

Can a sprocket be reconditioned, e.g. by hardfacing worn teeth?

Technically, hardfacing and re-milling the teeth is possible, but in practice it is rarely cost-effective - the cost of reconditioning is often close to the price of a new sprocket, and restoring the full precision of the tooth profile requires specialist machining. In most cases, replacing it with a new sprocket is the quicker and safer solution.

Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?

No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.

Where is this product used?

06B-1 sprockets are used in industrial drive transmissions: conveyors, feeders, packaging machines and production lines where precise, repeatable torque transmission matters.

When placing your order, please check the current stock level of this gear - the lead time depends on it and is clearly stated according to the quantity available in the given warehouse.
