Product Description
Sprocket 06B-1 z=38, with cast iron hub
Sprocket 06B-1, simplex, with 38 teeth and a hub - pitch 3/8" (9.53 mm). The material is grey cast iron - an economical solution with good vibration damping that proves itself in drives running at constant speed; the hub has a pilot bore that must be bored out individually to suit the shaft.

Frequently asked questions
Do a newly fitted chain and sprocket require running-in after installation?
After installation, it is worth running the drive for a while without full load, observing the smoothness of operation and the bearing temperature - this allows installation errors (e.g. misalignment) to be detected before full load is applied. The tooth profile of the sprocket itself does not require running-in if the sprocket and chain have matching pitch and are made in accordance with the standard.
How does material quality prevent the teeth from "shearing" during sudden machine jerks?
Soft, uncertified sheet metal deforms under a sudden jerk - the teeth bend over. Steel from a certified melt, correctly heat-treated, has a high yield strength and withstands a torque surge without permanent deformation.
Can a new chain be fitted on an old, worn sprocket?
Never do this. An old, deformed sprocket has altered tooth geometry and will force drastic mechanical stretching on the new chain. The rule is "new chain - new sprocket" - only then will the drive achieve maximum service life.
How should large-diameter sprockets be transported and stored to prevent deformation?
Large sprockets are best stored and transported lying flat on a level, stable surface, rather than resting on the toothed rim alone, which is more susceptible to local deformation. When lifting, it is advisable to use slings passed through the hub bore rather than hooking them onto individual teeth.
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
Applications include drives in the food industry, packaging machines, sorting lines and agricultural harvesting machines, where the sprocket operates seasonally but under full load.
