Product Description
Sprocket 06B-1 z=114, with cast iron hub
The sprocket 06B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 114 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 3/8" / 9.53 mm. The material is grey cast iron - an economical solution with good vibration damping that proves itself in drives running at constant speed; the hub has a pilot bore that must be bored out individually to suit the shaft.

Frequently asked questions
How can a sprocket and chain be protected against corrosion during storage?
After cleaning off any dirt, it is advisable to apply a layer of preservative grease or anti-corrosion oil and store the sprocket in a dry place not exposed to condensation. In the steel version (without coating), even a short damp break in the workshop can cause a rusty film on the tooth surfaces.
Can the hub of a sprocket have a different hardness from the toothed rim?
Yes, and in practice this is usually the case - in the version with induction-hardened teeth, only the toothed rim is hardened, while the hub remains soft so that it can be freely turned and a keyway can be cut in it. This solution combines tooth wear resistance with ease of machining the hub.
Do a newly fitted chain and sprocket require running-in after installation?
After installation, it is worth running the drive for a while without full load, observing the smoothness of operation and the bearing temperature - this allows installation errors (e.g. misalignment) to be detected before full load is applied. The tooth profile of the sprocket itself does not require running-in if the sprocket and chain have matching pitch and are made in accordance with the standard.
What should be used to preserve sprockets before a longer break in operation?
After cleaning with a brush and a technical cleaner, apply preservative grease or a thick, moisture-displacing spray oil to the entire surface of the sprocket. This will protect the metal against rust deposits during the break while it is stored in the hall.
Does a cast iron sprocket require a different chain than a steel sprocket of the same pitch?
No - the tooth geometry and pitch are identical to those of the steel version of the same size, so the cast iron sprocket works with the same chain. The difference lies in the material of the hub and rim: cast iron dampens vibrations better and is cheaper, but withstands impacts and operation at high rotational speeds less well than steel.
Where is this product used?
06B-1 sprockets operate in drives of construction machinery, goods lifts, aggregate conveyors and woodworking machines - wherever tooth durability under load matters.
