Timing belt pulley 21 T5 z=14 aluminium - for T5 belts with a pitch of 5 mm. Made of hard-anodised aluminium 6082 T6.

The pilot bore allows the pulley to be bored precisely to the shaft size and the fit required by the machine, to H7 tolerance. The keyway is cut on a slotting machine according to DIN 6885.

What is a pilot bore and how is it rebored?

A pilot bore is a technological bore smaller than the target shaft diameter - a turner rebores it precisely to the specific shaft, to H7 tolerance. The keyway is cut on a slotting machine according to DIN 6885.

How do you align pulleys correctly?

The grooves of both pulleys must lie in one plane. Check this with a straightedge or a laser alignment tool. Even a slight lateral misalignment causes rapid wear of the belt's side edges.

How do you choose a pulley for a toothed belt?

The key is matching the series (T5 = 5 mm pitch) and the belt width (21 mm). The drive ratio is calculated by dividing the number of teeth of the driven pulley by the number of teeth of the driving pulley.

How can you recognise a worn pulley groove?

If the bottom of the groove is shiny, the belt has bottomed out and no longer wedges against the flanks - the pulley needs replacing. Profile gauges are used for checking.
