Product Description

Spur gear module 5, z=21, with hub, hardened

The spur gear module 5 shown, 21 teeth, with hub, is a basic component of module drives - it meshes with any other gear or gear rack (toothed rack) of the same module and pressure angle 20°. Made of C45E steel (EN 10083-1) with induction-hardened teeth (45-55 HRC) - a variant intended for the most intensively used drives.

Frequently asked questions

How does the operating temperature affect the choice of material for a module gear?

At high temperatures, C45E steel retains its properties much better than plastics, which can soften and lose tooth profile accuracy; in such cases steel (including stainless steel if moisture or steam is also present) is the safer choice.

How can you check whether two module gears will mesh with each other?

There is one absolute condition: both gears must have exactly the same module (e.g. m=2) and the same pressure angle (standard 20°). If the modules differ by even a fraction of a millimetre, the teeth will start to shear and the gearbox will be destroyed.

Do straight-tooth module gears have a specific mounting direction?

No, a straight-tooth gear is symmetrical and can be mounted either way round; direction only matters with helical teeth, where the helix angle must match the mating gear.

What does it mean when the gear "skips" teeth under load?

Most often it is a sign that the transmitted torque exceeds the tooth strength for the given module, or that the backlash is too large - in both cases continued operation leads to the teeth breaking off quickly.

Where is this product used?

Typical applications include conveyor drives, packaging machines, industrial automation and positioning systems using a gear and gear rack pair.

When placing your order, please check the current stock level of this gear - the lead time depends on it and is clearly stated according to the quantity available in the given warehouse.
