Product Description
Module gear 39 teeth, module 3, with hub - 3D printed PA12-CF15 composite, O3D
The O3D spur gear module 3 with 39 teeth is a module gear with hub, 3D printed from PA12-CF15 composite, i.e. nylon (polyamide 12) reinforced with carbon fibre. It has an outer diameter of 123 mm and a O20 mm pilot bore that you can ream to the size of your shaft. A light and quiet gear for transmissions with light and medium loads.

Where can this plastic gear be used?
A gear made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic transmits drive in gear trains with light and medium loads, for example in applications such as:
- control instruments and apparatus
- equipment working in damp conditions, e.g. water and yacht equipment
- prototypes and functional models
- reproduction of gears for machines with no spare parts available
- RC models
- industrial automation equipment
- positioning drives and actuators
Questions and answers about the spur gear module 3
What does the module of a gear mean?
The module defines the tooth size - the larger the module, the larger the teeth. The pitch diameter of a gear is the module multiplied by the number of teeth. Only gears with the same module can mesh with each other.
Is the PA12-CF15 gear resistant to oils and greases?
Yes. PA12 has very good resistance to common mineral and synthetic oils, lithium greases, fuels and hydraulic fluids - one of its main advantages over other plastics. Lubrication is not necessary at low loads, but it reduces wear and noise.
Avoid contact of the gear with:
- strong acids and strong oxidising agents,
- phenols,
- certain chlorinated solvents,
- hot water or steam over long periods.
Can a plastic gear mesh with a steel gear?
Yes. Steel conducts heat away from the mesh, so a steel-plastic pair runs cooler and wears more slowly than a plastic-plastic pair.
Do not use this combination when:
- the steel gear is soft (unhardened) or has rough teeth - PA12-CF15 is abrasive and will wear its teeth; for the same reason, mating with brass and aluminium is ruled out,
- loads are high or shocks occur - a plastic tooth is much weaker than a steel one and will break or deform permanently when overloaded,
- speeds are high and operation is continuous - heat builds up in the plastic gear, the material softens and the tooth wears faster,
- precise positioning or zero backlash is required - a printed gear has a lower accuracy class than a milled one, and under constant load the plastic slowly creeps.
What if I need a gear in a colour other than black?
As standard, we make our gears in black. If you need a different colour, write to us - we will check whether we can print the gear in the variant you want.
What does the O3D designation in the name mean?
O3D stands for Ozdowski 3D Printing. The O3D brand belongs to Ozdowski Group - a Polish manufacturer of drive components.
