Where can this plastic gear be used?
A gear made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic transmits drive in gear trains with light and medium loads, for example in applications such as:
- printing and bookbinding equipment
- mechanics of electronic devices
- power tools
- positioning drives and actuators
- glass and ceramics processing machines
- radio-controlled modelling
- test and laboratory set-ups
Questions and answers about the spur gear module 1
Which tooth counts are available for module 1?
Yes. In module 1 we offer gears with hub from 8 to 248 teeth, in steps of one tooth. All of them are made of the same PA12-CF15 material.
What does the tooth surface of a printed gear look like?
The surface is slightly rough due to the carbon fibre content of the material. The print layers are invisible or barely noticeable.
Will a transmission with an O3D gear be noisy?
Usually yes. Plastic dampens vibrations and tooth impacts, so plastic-plastic and steel-plastic pairs run noticeably more quietly than a steel-steel pair.
Can you make a gear based on a drawing or a sample?
Yes. Send us a technical drawing or the data of the old gear and we will reproduce it by 3D printing.
Can I buy an identical gear later?
Yes. We produce every gear according to the same design and inspect it after production, so with your next order you will receive a gear with the same dimensions.
