Product Description
Module gear 40 teeth, module 0,5, with hub - 3D printed PA12-CF15 composite, O3D
The O3D spur gear module 0,5 with 40 teeth is a module gear with hub, 3D printed from PA12-CF15 composite, i.e. nylon (polyamide 12) reinforced with carbon fibre. It has an outer diameter of 21 mm and a O8 mm pilot bore that you can ream to the size of your shaft. A light and quiet gear for transmissions with light and medium loads.

Where can this plastic gear be used?
A gear made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic transmits drive in gear trains with light and medium loads, for example in applications such as:
- rapid prototyping of mechanisms
- industrial cleaning machines
- stage machinery and moving scenery
- industrial automation equipment
- measuring instruments and apparatus
- power tools
- bottling machines
Questions and answers about the spur gear module 0,5
Which gear will this gear mesh with?
The gear meshes only with module gears of module 0,5 and a 20° pressure angle. The number of teeth of the mating gear determines the gear ratio.
How strong is a gear made of PA12 with carbon fibre?
According to the filament manufacturer's data sheet, PA12-CF15 has a tensile strength of 123 MPa and a modulus of elasticity of 7995 MPa (ISO 527). These values were measured on standardised specimens - the actual strength of the gear also depends on its geometry and operating conditions.
How should I look after a PA12-CF15 gear?
- Installation: check the alignment and centre distance of the mating gears. Runout and too little backlash cause the teeth to overheat and wear quickly. Ream the pilot bore to the shaft size instead of forcing the gear on.
- Mating gear: ideally hardened and smooth, because carbon fibre wears down soft metals.
- Load and temperature: do not exceed the loads the gear was selected for. Avoid long operation at high speeds without heat dissipation.
- Lubrication: optional. Under higher loads, grease reduces wear and noise. Use plastic-compatible lubricants and protect the gear from solvents, acids and strong cleaning agents.
- Cleaning: remove dust and chips, as they act as an abrasive. Compressed air or a dry cloth is enough; for grease soiling, use a mild agent without solvents.
- Inspection: check the teeth from time to time. Worn flanks, rounded tips, cracks at the tooth root or clearly increased backlash mean that the gear needs replacing.
- Outdoor use: shield the transmission from constant sunlight. Moisture is not a problem for PA12.
- Storing spare gears: in a dry place, away from sunlight and heat sources.
What if I need a gear in a colour other than black?
As standard, we make our gears in black. If you need a different colour, write to us - we will check whether we can print the gear in the variant you want.
How long does shipping take?
Gears available from stock are shipped no later than the next working day. You can see the stock level above the product price.
