Product Description
Sprocket 16B-3 z=31, with hub
Sprocket 16B-3, triplex (three-strand), with 31 teeth and a hub - pitch 1" (25.4 mm). The sprocket complies with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 and is made of C45E steel (EN 10083-1); the teeth are not hardened, which lowers the cost of the sprocket and makes it easier to machine (e.g. deep boring of the hub) throughout the entire volume of the material.

Frequently asked questions
How does the choice of the number of teeth affect vibration levels and drive operation?
A smaller number of teeth means fewer meshing points per revolution and larger fluctuations in the instantaneous chain speed (the so-called polygon effect), which results in higher vibration levels. Increasing the number of teeth of the sprocket (at the same pitch) smooths the operation of the drive, although it increases its overall dimensions.
How often should chain tension be checked on a machine in operation?
In machines operating continuously, it is advisable to check the tension every few weeks, and in a newly installed drive - as early as after the first hours of operation, when the chain "beds in". A correctly tensioned chain has a slight, visible sag on the slack side - too tight a chain accelerates bearing wear, while too loose a chain increases the risk of it jumping off the sprocket.
What forces act on the key in a sprocket and how can it be prevented from shearing?
The key transmits the entire shearing torque between the shaft and the sprocket. Make sure it is made of suitable quenched and tempered steel, has an accurate fit in the keyway and that the machine is not subjected to extreme jerks without an overload clutch.
What happens when a sprocket operates under a greater load than intended?
Overloading first accelerates normal tooth wear, and with sudden overloads (e.g. machine blockage) the teeth may become permanently bent or sheared. In such cases, using an overload clutch in the system is often a better solution than choosing an oversized sprocket "just in case".
Where is this product used?
Typical applications of the 16B-3 sprocket: drives for pumps, mixers and industrial fans, as well as control systems for industrial gates and roller shutters, where resistance to continuous operation is required.
