Product Description
Sprocket 16B-3 z=18, with hub
The sprocket 16B-3 shown is a triplex (three-strand) sprocket with 18 teeth, made with a hub, for chain with a pitch of 1" / 25.4 mm. The sprocket complies with DIN 8187 / ISO 606 and is made of C45E steel (EN 10083-1); the teeth are not hardened, which lowers the cost of the sprocket and makes it easier to machine (e.g. deep boring of the hub) throughout the entire volume of the material.

Frequently asked questions
In what cases are multi-strand sprockets used?
They are used to drive multi-strand chains in heavily loaded machines where there is no room for a wider sprocket with a larger pitch. Several strands distribute the load evenly, preventing premature chain breakage.
When is it worth using a clamping bush (Taper Bush) for a sprocket?
Wherever fast assembly matters. A clamping bush eliminates the need for laborious boring of the hub and cutting of a keyway - you insert the sprocket, tighten the screws and the machine is back in operation within minutes.
How do I determine the centre distance between the driving and driven sprockets?
The centre distance should provide an adequate chain wrap angle on the smaller sprocket (usually a minimum of about 120°) and sufficient chain length so that the number of links is a whole number, preferably even. Too small a centre distance increases the meshing frequency and accelerates wear, while too large a one leads to excessive chain sag.
How does a sprocket with hardened teeth differ from the standard version (non-hardened)?
The hardened version has teeth induction-hardened to 45-55 HRC, which extends service life in drives operating continuously and under heavy load. The standard version (non-hardened) is cheaper and fully adequate for applications with moderate load or intermittent operation - our catalogue offers both variants for most pitches and numbers of teeth.
Where is this product used?
16B-3 sprockets are used in industrial drive transmissions: conveyors, feeders, packaging machines and production lines where precise, repeatable torque transmission matters.
