Product Description
Sprocket 16B-2 z=21, hardened hub
The sprocket 16B-2 presented here is a duplex sprocket with 21 teeth, made with a hardened hub, for a chain with a pitch of 1" / 25.4 mm. Sprocket compliant with DIN 8187 / ISO 606, milled from C45E steel (EN 10083-1); the teeth are induction hardened (45-55 HRC), while the core and hub remain soft, allowing the bore to be safely machined to the shaft size.

Frequently asked questions
How does induction hardening of the teeth affect abrasion resistance?
Induction hardening hardens only the surface layer of the tooth, where the chain rollers bear. The tooth is resistant to wear, while the sprocket core and hub remain elastic enough to safely absorb impacts and be suitable for boring.
How do you calculate the pitch circle diameter of a sprocket?
The pitch circle diameter (Dp) is, in simplified terms, the line along which the chain rollers roll. It is calculated using the formula: pitch divided by sine (180° / number of teeth).
Can a sprocket be welded directly to the drive shaft?
Technically this is possible, but we strongly advise against such a solution. Welding overheats the material, damages nearby bearings, bends the shaft and prevents the worn sprocket from being easily replaced later. Always use mounting with a key or a clamping bush.
Is a duplex sprocket the same as a tandem sprocket (for two single chains)?
No, even though they look very similar. A tandem sprocket is also a single, monolithic sprocket, but with a different (wider) spacing of the toothed rims - designed specifically for two independent simplex chains running in parallel. This duplex sprocket has a rim spacing matched to a single duplex chain, in which both strands are integrated with each other. Using a duplex sprocket for two single chains is a mistake - the spacing is too narrow and the chains will rub against each other, which leads to accelerated wear and, in extreme cases, to serious drive failure.
Where is this product used?
Typical applications of the 16B-2 sprocket: drives for pumps, mixers and industrial fans, as well as control systems for industrial gates and roller shutters, where resistance to continuous operation is required.
