Sprocket 16A-2 (ANSI 80-2) z=20 with hub, C45 steel is designed for ASA 80 (16A-2) roller chain, double-strand (duplex), with a pitch of 25.4 mm (1"). It has 20 teeth and is made of C45 steel in accordance with ISO 606 and ANSI B29.1.

The sprocket has a one-sided hub with a diameter of 130 mm and a pilot bore of Ø20 mm, which is bored to the shaft size and completed with a keyway or a set screw hole. The total width of the sprocket is 70 mm.

It works in drives of lifts, winches and heavy chain conveyors. The double-strand version carries higher loads than a single-strand one of the same pitch, so it is chosen where there is no room for a chain with a larger pitch.

No. 16B chain (European standard) has the same pitch and roller diameter, but a different inner width (17.02 mm instead of 15.88 mm). The ASA 80 sprocket is designed for American-standard chain, so the two systems should not be mixed.

How do I check sprocket run-out after installation?

A dial indicator on a magnetic stand is used. Place the tip against the rim or side of the sprocket and turn the shaft, reading the deviations. Excessive run-out usually means a crooked bore or a damaged shaft.

How should a sprocket be protected before a longer machine standstill?

After cleaning with a brush and technical cleaner, coat the whole surface of the sprocket with preservative grease or thick spray oil that displaces moisture. This protects the C45 steel against corrosion during downtime, for example out of season.
