Product Description
Sprocket 12B-1 z=22, hardened hub
The sprocket 12B-1 shown is a simplex sprocket with 22 teeth, made with a hardened hub, for chain with a pitch of 3/4" / 19.05 mm. The material is carbon steel C45E (EN 10083-1), and the teeth undergo induction hardening to 45-55 HRC - in accordance with DIN 8187 / ISO 606; the hub retains a lower core hardness, so it can be machined safely.

Frequently asked questions
When does tooth wear (the "shark fin" profile) mean the sprocket must be replaced?
If the teeth resemble pointed, tilted shark fins, the sprocket must be replaced immediately. Operating on such a profile can damage even a brand-new chain within a dozen or so days.
When is it worth using a clamping bush (Taper Bush) for a sprocket?
Wherever fast assembly matters. A clamping bush eliminates the need for laborious boring of the hub and cutting of a keyway - you insert the sprocket, tighten the screws and the machine is back in operation within minutes.
In what cases are multi-strand sprockets used?
They are used to drive multi-strand chains in heavily loaded machines where there is no room for a wider sprocket with a larger pitch. Several strands distribute the load evenly, preventing premature chain breakage.
Why are cast sprockets less precise than turned and milled ones?
Cheap castings have a rough tooth surface, hidden air bubbles and slight deformations. CNC-turned and milled sprockets mean a smooth working surface, perfect alignment and safety for the most expensive machines.
Where is this product used?
Applications include drives in the food industry, packaging machines, sorting lines and agricultural harvesting machines, where the sprocket operates seasonally but under full load.
