Frequently asked questions

Which chain does the 085-1 z=48 sprocket fit?

085-1 roller chain to European standard DIN 8187 / ISO 606, with a pitch of 12.7 mm. A simplex sprocket requires a single-strand (simplex) chain.

What is the difference between the 085-1 sprocket and the 08B-1 sprocket if they have the same pitch?

Both sprockets have a pitch of 12.7 mm (1/2"), but they are designed for different chains. The 085-1 chain has the same roller diameter (8.51 mm), but a narrower inner width - 6.4 mm instead of 7.75 mm in the 08B-1 chain. That is why the 085-1 sprocket has a narrower toothed rim (5.9 mm instead of 7.2 mm) and should not be used with 08B-1 chain, nor should these series be interchanged.

How should sprockets be aligned during installation?

The driving and driven sprockets must lie in one plane. Alignment can be checked with a long steel straightedge placed against the sides of both wheels or with a laser alignment tool. Even a small misalignment wears the sides of the teeth and speeds up chain wear.

When does a sprocket need replacing?

It should be replaced when the teeth start to look like pointed shark fins or are clearly bent to one side. Running on such a profile quickly destroys even a new chain, so a worn sprocket must be replaced.

Can a new chain be fitted on a worn sprocket?

This should not be done. A worn sprocket has a changed tooth profile, so a new chain runs unevenly and elongates quickly. The rule is: new chain - new sprockets.

What does the lead time depend on?

When ordering, please check the current stock level of this sprocket - the lead time depends on it and is clearly stated according to the quantity available in each warehouse. The stock level is shown above the product price and may vary depending on the warehouse.
