Chain 08B-1 (DIN 8187, B series) - why can A and B series not be used interchangeably?

Chain 08B-1 is a B series roller chain according to DIN 8187. The B series has wider side link plates than the A series at the same pitch of 12.7 mm - which is why A and B series chains cannot be used interchangeably. Before ordering, always check the series marking on the side plate of the old chain or in the machine documentation.
