Can I use any linear bearing with this shaft?

Yes, as long as the bearing or bushing is intended for a diameter of fi=40 mm. You choose the bearing type (ball, plain, linear carriage) according to the design of the mechanism.

How does the chrome-plated version differ from the standard one?
