Product Description

Roller chain 20B-1 stainless

This simplex roller chain 20B-1 is made of stainless steel and has a pitch of 31.75 mm. Manufactured in accordance with the standard DIN 8187 / ISO 606; as a European manufacturer, we guarantee dimensional compatibility with sprockets of the same standard, regardless of the material. Thanks to hardening each component separately, even before the whole chain is assembled, Ozdowski products achieve a breaking strength about 20% higher than the minimum values specified by the standard.

Frequently asked questions

How do I select a stainless 20B chain for a drive or conveyor?

Three parameters are key: pitch, inner width and roller diameter - for 20B they are 31.75 mm, 19.56 mm and 19.05 mm respectively. In addition, in a corrosive environment it is worth assessing whether standard stainless steel is sufficient or whether the acid-resistant 316L version is needed.

What grade of steel is the stainless chain in this version made of?

The standard stainless version is made of chromium-nickel steel (type 304) containing approx. 18% chromium and 8-10% nickel. It performs well in humid conditions and in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where carbon steel would corrode.

How often should chain tension be checked in a transmission or conveyor?

The first check should be carried out after approx. 50 hours of operation (running-in period), and then regularly - usually once a month or according to the inspection schedule of the machine.

Why does a stainless chain not rust the way a carbon steel chain does?

Stainless steel contains at least 18% chromium, which forms an invisible, self-renewing passive layer of chromium oxide on the surface. It is this layer, not the steel itself, that protects the chain against oxidation - if it is mechanically damaged (e.g. by a deep scratch), it rebuilds itself in the presence of air.

Where is this product used?

Used on conveyors and in packaging machines in food and pharmaceutical plants, as well as in rooms with high humidity where ease of cleaning is required.
