Timing belts

Timing belts (synchronous belts) transmit power by positive engagement - the belt teeth mesh with the pulley teeth, so the drive runs without slip and with a constant transmission ratio. The belt needs no lubrication, runs quietly and can connect distant shafts. It is used in automation, machine tools, packaging machines, 3D printers, linear axes and agricultural machinery.

Timing belts with standardised profiles - replacement without modifying the drive

Belt profiles are standardised, so a belt with the same designation replaces the original with no changes to the drive. In one place you will find metric, HTD and imperial belts, as well as timing pulleys, belts by the metre and clamping plates - you can put together the entire drive without searching for parts from many suppliers. Conveyor versions of the belts save time when building conveyor lines.

T, AT, HTD and imperial XL, L, H synchronous belts - profiles and applications

The T2.5, T5 and T10 profiles have a trapezoidal tooth to DIN 7721, and AT5 and AT10 - a wider and stiffer tooth for higher loads and accurate positioning. The HTD profile (3M, 5M, 8M, 14M) has rounded teeth that distribute pressure better. The imperial profiles XL, L and H (ISO 5296) are found mainly in American machines and older designs. How to choose a timing belt for the pulley - profile, pitch and width

The belt profile and pitch must be the same as on the timing pulley - an 8M pulley requires an 8M belt. For metric belts the width is the first number in the designation (e.g. 16 T5), and for imperial belts - a code in hundredths of an inch (e.g. H 100 is 1"). The length is given as the belt circumference on the pitch line.

Does a T5 belt fit an HTD 5M pulley?

No. Both have a 5 mm pitch, but the tooth profile is different - trapezoidal and rounded. The belt and pulley must have the same profile.
