The hard tooth surface withstands abrasion by the chain rollers much better, which is why such sprockets last longer in high-speed, heavily loaded drives and in dusty environments.

Longer tooth life means fewer replacements, shorter downtime and lower machine maintenance costs. The teeth reach a hardness of 45-55 HRC, while the rest of the sprocket retains the toughness of C45 steel - the tooth is wear-resistant but not brittle, so it copes well with shocks. The soft hub lets you bore the hole for the shaft and cut a keyway without difficulty, and the sprocket dimensions match standard sprockets, so you can replace them without modifications.

Sprockets for European B series chains to DIN 8187 / ISO 606, divided into subgroups by chain size and within them by number of strands. When to choose a hardened sprocket instead of a standard one

Above all as a driving sprocket - it has fewer teeth and makes more revolutions, so it wears fastest. A hardened sprocket also pays off in drives working in dust, sand and mud, i.e. in agricultural and construction machinery and bulk material conveyors, and wherever the chain runs fast and continuously.
