The large tooth transmits considerable forces, and racks can be joined into longer sections without losing the pitch. Ready-made lengths limit cutting, and an unhardened C45 or C15 steel rack is easy to adapt on site. The hardened version has teeth resistant to abrasion and high contact pressures, which extends the working life of the whole drive.
