Jaw couplings

Jaw couplings are flexible couplings made up of two hubs with jaws and a star-shaped insert (spider) whose arms fit between the jaws. The insert transmits torque, damps vibrations and compensates for slight shaft misalignment.

Jaw couplings - power transmission even after the spider has worn

An important advantage is operational safety: even after the insert has worn, the hub jaws still engage and the drive is not suddenly interrupted. You assemble the coupling from parts, so you can choose the hub version according to the load, and in case of failure replace only the spider. The insert colour allows the coupling to be matched to the operating conditions.

Combining hubs and choosing a jaw coupling insert - customer questions

Can I combine an aluminium hub with a cast iron hub?

Yes, if both hubs belong to the same coupling size. The hub version does not affect the choice of insert.

How do I choose an insert?

The insert size must be the same as the size of the coupling to which both hubs belong. Choose the colour according to the operating conditions of the drive - the simplest option is to use the same one as before.
