Taper-Lock bushes

Taper-Lock bushes are tapered, longitudinally slit clamping bushes used to fix pulleys, sprockets and other components with a Taper-Lock seat on the shaft. When the screws are tightened, the bush is drawn into the tapered seat, clamps onto the shaft and centres the pulley.

A pulley with a Taper-Lock seat does not need boring or keyway cutting - the shaft bore is in the bush, which you simply choose. You can mount one pulley on shafts of different diameters by replacing only the bush. Mounting takes a few minutes and requires no press, and removal can be done without a puller, without damaging the shaft. Sizes are standardised, so the bush fits pulleys with a seat of the same size, regardless of their manufacturer.

How to read the four-digit Taper-Lock bush size

The four-digit size describes the bush in tenths of an inch: the first two digits indicate approximately the largest possible bore, and the last two - the bush length. Sizes with the same first digits, e.g. 1610 and 1615, have the same taper and differ only in length.

Is the bush sold together with the pulley?

No, the bush is ordered separately. The pulley must have a seat of the same size, and you choose the bush bore according to the shaft diameter.

How do I remove a pulley on a Taper-Lock bush?

Unscrew the screws and screw one of them into the jacking hole - it will push the bush out of the taper and loosen the connection.
